Inspired by the soft, ethereal glow of the moon, Madrid-based furniture design brand Woodendot replicates the experience of staring at the cosmos with LUA, a lighting design that meets the intersection between art and functionality. The fixture follows up on Woodendot’s ALBA table collection that launched in 2019 and is named for “sunrise” in Spanish, replicating the essence of sunlight on rippling waters. As ALBA’s companion, LUA means “moon” and is available as table lamps or ceiling pendants that provide a subtle luminance while setting a serene ambience.
The intention of designing LUA wasn’t solely to solve a practical need. “Our aim was to design a lamp that not only illuminates but also elevates the atmosphere of any space,” Raquel Hernandez, the designer of the lamp, reveals. “By incorporating unique textures and a front panel with a strategic fold, we’ve achieved a balance between soft illumination and captivating design.”
LUA comprises two wooden panels. The back panel is corrugated, adding texture to the design. In front of it, a smaller panel with a slight fold casts an eclipse-like light onto the background. Through collaborative participation, Woodendot’s users helped decide the three distinctive shapes of the LUA collection. Available in seven colorways and three sizes, LUA is the missing element in creating a room that is warm, inviting, and cozy.
