While I relish the occasional massage or high-end haircut, when it comes to most beauty treatments, I’m an at-home self-starter. What can I say? I’m a DIY gal through and through—and mani-pedis are no exception.
I keep my manicures fairly basic, but when it comes to my feet, I’m a little pickier (chalk it up to one professional pedicure that left them feeling so smooth, my feet slipped around inside my shoes—causing blisters—for weeks). Over the years, I’ve tried a laundry list of scrubs, foot masks, and devices (both low- and high-tech) to manage dry skin and calluses; after much trial and error, I’ve finally assembled a lineup of products that have helped upgrade my routine—but my favorite by far has to be the Nano Glass Foot File from Earth Therapeutics ($11, amazon.com). This little pink tool has become my desert-island pedicure must-have. Here’s why.
The design
The Nano Glass Foot File is about the size of a bar of soap—the top is plastic, while the bottom is made from a sheet of tempered glass that you can use to file and buff away any rough spots on your feet. It may look more like a paperweight than a pedicure savior, but the device’s small size actually works to its advantage in a few ways. I love that it fits almost anywhere in my shower, from the shelf where my shampoo sits to the soap dish to the corner of my tub. Plus, the slightly squiggly shape is lightweight, fits perfectly in my hand, and is easy to hold, even when wet.
The plastic exterior feels smooth to the touch and hasn’t cracked or faded after a year of use. On the other side, the textured glass helps you polish your way to smooth skin. The actual design looks like a pattern of small, concentric circles that are etched into the glass by lasers, according to the brand.
Using the device just feels like putting slight pressure on my feet, even though the glass is rough and prickly to the touch, almost like a super gritty nail file. One thing to note: The surface is great at removing dead skin, but I’ve found that it can scuff up your fingernails if you’re not paying attention (NBD on a normal day, but might be aggravating with a full set).
TL;DR? This S-shaped tool seems uniquely designed to produce baby-soft feet in mere minutes.

How it works
Another thing about me: The more difficult or complicated a product is, the less likely I am to reach for it. So it’s not a coincidence that the Nano Glass Foot File has barely any instructions and works in no time.
